Kraiburg TPE unveils sustainable TPE solutions for automotive running boards
Waldkraiburg, Germany — In a significant stride toward sustainable mobility, KRAIBURG TPE has introduced its latest innovation in eco-friendly automotive materials: the THERMOLAST® R RC/UV/AP series. Designed specifically for exterior automotive components like running boards, this new thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compound blends high performance with environmental responsibility.
Running boards, often overlooked in vehicle design, play a crucial role in enhancing accessibility, safety, and aesthetics—especially in SUVs and trucks. KRAIBURG TPE’s new material not only meets these functional demands but also aligns with the automotive industry’s growing emphasis on sustainability.
The THERMOLAST® R RC/UV/AP series contains between 15% and 40% recycled content, helping manufacturers reduce their environmental footprint without compromising on quality. These compounds offer excellent UV stability, weather resistance, and impact strength—key attributes for components exposed to harsh outdoor conditions.
“Our RC/UV/AP series is engineered to deliver long-term durability and visual consistency,” said a KRAIBURG TPE spokesperson. “With a Shore A hardness range of 50 to 90, it supports a wide variety of design needs, from flexible to more rigid structures.”
The material also boasts strong adhesion to polypropylene (PP), low density for weight reduction, and temperature stability up to 90°C. It has passed the rigorous two-year Florida weathering test with a GS rating of ≥ 4, underscoring its resilience in real-world conditions.
Beyond running boards, the RC/UV/AP series is suitable for other exterior automotive applications such as cowl gaskets, underbody components, and window encapsulations. Available in black, it ensures a sleek, modern appearance while supporting sustainable design goals.
KRAIBURG TPE’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond this product line, with a broader portfolio that includes bio-based TPEs and compounds incorporating both post-consumer and post-industrial recycled content.
As the automotive industry accelerates toward greener solutions, innovations like THERMOLAST® R RC/UV/AP are setting new standards for performance and environmental stewardship.
