Laur Silicone marks 50 years of silicone specialization
Beaverton, MI – Laur Silicone is marking its 50th year in operation, reflecting on a history of silicone rubber development and manufacturing. The company was founded in 1976 by Tom and Rose Mary Laur as Laur Silicone Rubber Compounding, Inc., with a focus on custom formulation and mixing of silicone materials. Dan Laur joined the company as its first employee in January 1977.
Throughout its history, the company has maintained a specialization in silicone. Tom Laur contributed to the field through the development of multiple patented technologies, helping establish the company’s technical foundation. That emphasis on formulation and process knowledge has remained a consistent aspect of operations over time.
Laur Silicone currently produces silicone rubber compounds and silicone dispersions used in a range of applications. Its work includes developing materials to meet customer-defined specifications, with an emphasis on consistency and application-specific performance.
The company operates a manufacturing environment dedicated solely to silicone materials. This eliminates cross-contamination and reflects its focus on silicone development. In addition to production, Laur Silicone maintains laboratory capabilities for formulation, testing, and product development. Services include laboratory sampling, pilot-scale production, and full-scale manufacturing.
The company continues to invest in its future through new technologies and expanded capabilities. In 2025, a conical twin-screw mixing line was brought online for production batches, representing a significant increase in capacity and supporting the company’s ability to meet growing demand.
Laur Silicone provides materials in several forms, including bulk slab, preformed strip, and calendered sheet, depending on customer requirements and processing methods.
With five decades of experience, the company continues to focus on silicone compounding and formulation.
