Marzieh Shabani awarded Internship Recognition Award at Spring Technical Meeting
Akron, OH – Marzieh Shabani has been awarded the Internship Recognition Award by Silox Canada in recognition of her successful completion of an industry internship focused on sustainable elastomer technology and environmental innovation.
The award was presented during the ACS Rubber Division Spring 2026 Technical Meeting, where Shabani’s internship project and technical contributions were recognized by industry leaders and conference participants. The Certificate of Internship Recognition Award was signed by Michel Plante, President and CEO of Silox Canada, and Avinash Bhaskar, Director of Sales.
Shabani received the award for leading a sustainability-focused research project titled “Carbon Footprint Mitigation through the Dual-Sustainability Synergistic Application of Active Zinc Oxide and Devulcanized Ground Tire Rubber in SBR Compounds.” The project explored innovative approaches to reducing the environmental footprint of elastomer formulations through the integration of active zinc oxide and recycled devulcanized ground tire rubber while maintaining compound performance and processing characteristics.
The research demonstrated the potential of combining advanced zinc oxide technology with recycled rubber materials to support more sustainable manufacturing practices in the rubber industry. The work aligns with ongoing efforts to advance circular economy principles and reduce dependence on virgin raw materials in elastomer applications.
The internship was conducted at Silox Canada, a leading supplier of zinc oxide products and technical solutions for the rubber industry. Throughout the internship, Shabani collaborated with industry professionals to evaluate material performance, sustainability benefits, and practical implementation strategies for environmentally responsible rubber compounding.
The award presentation was facilitated by Ed Terri, who served as mediator for presenters during the ACS Rubber Division Spring 2026 Technical Meeting.
