R.D. Abbott to co-organize, co-sponsor and exhibit at LSR 2021

Cerritos, CA – R.D. Abbott Co., Inc. is an organizer, sponsor and exhibitor for LSR 2021, the premiere conference about liquid silicone rubber (LSR). This year’s event is scheduled for September 13–16 in Schaumburg, IL, and will include technical presentations by R.D. Abbott and three of its supplier partners: Dow, Parker Lord and DuPont. Together with Dow, R.D. Abbott will exhibit and co-sponsor the lanyards and event.

Tom Jenkins, R.D. Abbott ’s vice president of business development, is a member of the organizing committee for the fourth conference in a row. The other committee members are Amos Golovoy of AG Research, Juergen Giesow of Arburg, Rick Finnie and Geri Anderson of M.R. Mold and Engineering, Steven Broadbent of ACH-Solution USA, Oliver Franssen of Sigma Engineering GmbH, Markus Landl of The Rico Group, Kurt Manigatter of Elmet GmbH, Victor Morando of Dymotek and Lynn Momrow-Zielinksi of Extreme Molding.

LSR 2021 includes two days of top-notch technical presentations, an expert panel discussion titled, “Machine Technology to Support LSR Processing,” and a workshop on silicone characterization and processing simulation. Sodick Co. Ltd., a leading precision injection mold machine manufacturer, and Plustech, a joint venture between Sodick and Yamazen Corporation, will provide a tour of their nearby Sodick-Plustech facility so LSR 2021 participants can see the injection molding of silicone parts.

Jake Steinbrecher, TS&D engineer for Dow, will deliver LSR 2021’s keynote address, “Innovation in LSR: Using Sound Materials Science to Solve Performance and Manufacturing Issues,” on Tuesday, September 14, at 9:15 a.m. (ET). Steinbrecher will explain how sound materials science fundamentals can be used to solve a multitude of issues experienced by LSR users.

Rick Ziebell, R.D. Abbott ’s vice president of technology and Technical Fellow, will then present “LSR Third-Stream Modifiers that Change Surface Properties” on September 14, at 10:00 a.m. (ET).  Ziebell will explain how R.D. Abbott and NovationSi, maker of NovaSperse silicone dispersion products, are exploring collaborative technologies for surface, antimicrobial and nanotechnology modifications. The results include silicones that have a silky feel, can minimize the spread of certain diseases, and can support neuromodulation therapies.

Paul Wheeler, staff scientist for Parker LORD, will share “Novel Adhesion Additive for Liquid Silicone Rubber” on September 14 at 11:00 a.m. (ET). Wheeler’s presentation will cover Chemlok 3Stream (3S), an adhesion-promoting additive for LSR that can impart self-bonding properties to non-self-bonding LSR. Chemlok 3S can be added to the third stream of an existing injection molding process to alleviate concerns about labor costs and volatile solvents associated with traditional primer/adhesive applications.

William Inman, technical representative for DuPont, will then present “Working Together: A Team Approach for Determining Biocompatibility of Medical Devices,” on September 14, at 12:00 p.m. (ET).  Inman will discuss how ISO 10993 and other global regulatory directives are emphasizing risk management over a universal model. He will also stress the importance of chemical characterization for determining silicone biocompatibility and the value of involving a trusted material supplier in the process.

“We are pleased to join such a distinguished group of presenters at the premiere conference about LSR,” said R.D. Abbott ’s Ziebell. “Event participants can learn about the latest developments in LSR, the potential impact on business opportunities, and where new developments are headed.”
