Registration opens for Tire Society’s 40th Annual Conference on Tire Science and Technology

Lawrence, KS – Registration is now open for the Tire Society’s 40th Annual Conference on Tire Science and Technology. The conference is being held the week of August 30 through September 3, and will utilize a virtual format again this year. Conference sessions are scheduled for the morning hours in the Akron (EDT) time zone (afternoon in Europe and evening in Asia) to encourage global participation.

The conference features original work delivered by leaders in tire science, a keynote address, panel discussions, and for the first time, two plenary lectures. The recipient of the 2021 Tire Society Distinguished Achievement Award will also be announced at the meeting.
The keynote address will be delivered by Mike Anderson, General Motors executive director, global virtual design, development and validation. Anderson and his team are responsible for the computer-aided engineering (CAE) of every component, sub-system and integration area of all current and future GM vehicles. He is also president-elect of FASITA, a world body promoting excellence in mobility engineering and a member of the Exascale Computing Project Industry Council.

The first plenary lecturer is Dr.-Ing. Christian Oertel, professor, Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, Mechatronics. His areas of research range across tire mechanics, along with the development of the tire model family RMOD-K; vehicle system dynamics, including tire models and full vehicle multibody simulations; tire testing and the tire property laboratory at TH Brandenburg; and virtual tire modeling, including the development of a finite element and database-based system. His talk is titled, Virtual Tires: Requirements, Fields of Application and Ways of Implementation.
Michael Stackpole, founder and president, Stackpole Engineering Services, will deliver the second plenary lecture. Stackpole is an industry veteran having worked in the areas of tire/vehicle simulation development, tire testing and custom tire modeling at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Bridgestone Americas. The company he established has for 20 years provided engineering services in support of OEM vehicle and tire manufacturers, as well as professional race programs, across the globe. Stackpole’s talk is titled, The Evolution of Engineering Tools and the Virtual World in Motorsports: A Personal Story.
