SSP expands EMI shielding elastomer line to meet diverse industry needs

Ballston Spa, NY — Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) has unveiled a comprehensive update to its line of EMI shielding elastomers, offering solutions tailored to a wide range of applications, from military-grade enclosures to cost-sensitive commercial electronics. With materials engineered to meet stringent specifications like MIL-DTL-83528 and designed to replace legacy products such as Parker Chomerics CHO-SEAL®, SSP continues to position itself as a leader in the EMI shielding market.

SSP’s portfolio now includes MIL-DTL-83528 Qualified Product List (QPL) certified materials across Types A, B, C, D, and K. These include SSP2569-65, SSP2368-65, SSP2573-75, SSP2486-70, and SSP2571-85, each formulated with silver-coated particles and designed to match the performance of discontinued or hard-to-source CHO-SEAL materials. The company provides full certificates of analysis for each batch, ensuring traceability and quality assurance for defense and aerospace customers.

Recognizing the rising cost of silver and the growing demand for cost-effective alternatives, SSP has also expanded its line of nickel-coated graphite elastomers. These materials, including SSP502-65 and SSP502F-60, offer reliable shielding performance at a lower price point. Both have been tested to MIL-DTL-83528 standards and demonstrate shielding effectiveness greater than 113 dB across the 20 MHz to 10 GHz range. SSP502-65, in particular, has undergone independent testing and serves as an offset to CHO-SEAL 6305.

In addition to standard offerings, SSP has developed a range of non-standard EMI shielding products to address unique engineering challenges. These include soft gasket materials for low closure force applications, low outgassing silicones for space and vacuum environments, reinforced elastomers for structural integrity, and flame-retardant compounds for safety-critical systems. One standout product, SSP502-30, is a 30-durometer nickel-graphite silicone that provides excellent sealing without requiring high compression.

With all products manufactured in the USA, SSP continues to support industries ranging from defense and aerospace to telecommunications and industrial electronics. The company’s commitment to innovation and quality ensures that engineers and procurement teams have access to reliable, high-performance EMI shielding solutions for every scenario.
