Sumitomo Chemical Announces New Leadership Appointments

Tokyo, Japan – February 3, 2025 – Sumitomo Chemical announced the appointment of a new Chairman of the Board and President, effective April 1, 2025. These appointments were confirmed during the recent Board of Directors meeting. The Nomination Advisory Committee, consisting of five Independent Outside Directors, the Chairman of the Board, and the President, conducted a thorough selection process for the new President. Amidst a rapidly evolving business landscape, the Committee prioritized candidates who demonstrated the ability to create and execute a vision, provide organizational leadership, drive transformation, possess technological insight, and have international experience and communication skills. After careful consideration, the Committee has selected Nobuaki Mito as the new President. This decision was ratified by the Board of Directors.

Effective April 1, 2025, Masakazu Tokura will transition from Representative Director and Chairman of the Board to Director and Counselor, Keiichi Iwata will move from Representative Director and President to Representative Director and Chairman of the Board, and Nobuaki Mito will advance from Senior Management Executive Officer to President. It is noted that Masakazu Tokura is expected to resign as Director at the Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders in June 2025. Following this meeting and the subsequent Board of Directors meeting, Nobuaki Mito will be inaugurated as Representative Director and President.

Nobuaki Mito, born on August 4, 1960, in Hiroshima, Japan, holds an M.S. in Agricultural Chemistry from Nagoya University (1985) and a Ph.D. from the University of Tsukuba (1991). He joined Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. in 1985 and has held various roles, including General Manager of the Intellectual Property Department and Corporate Business Development Department. He has also served as Managing Executive Officer and Head of the Health & Crop Sciences Sector, and currently, he is the Senior Managing Executive Officer and Head of the Agro & Life Solutions Sector and Advanced Medical Solutions Sector.
