Synthomer commits to achieving Net Zero with SyNovus Plus

Kuala Lumpur – Synthomer has set forth a long-term plan to focus on sustainability into every aspect of its business. In order to create more sustainable future and responses to the climate emergency, Synthomer’s Health & Protection division has an exciting innovation pipeline through its SyNovus platform, a sustainable NBR platform that offers low carbon and recyclable NBR material to glove manufacturers. While sustainable growth may relate to long term growth, upholding environmental sustainability is here to embrace. It takes a concerted effort to protect our environmental resources, water, air quality, food and the whole ecosystems from further carbon pollution.

In 2020 we have committed to net zero by 2050 and in 2021 we launched our Vision 2030 roadmap, which guides our action on sustainability. The three main areas the organization will focus on, to achieve its sustainability objectives are Products, Operations, and People. One of the targets under its Product’s pillar is to develop new products with sustainability benefits, sourcing raw materials based on sustainability ratings from suppliers who uphold its ethical standards. The organization long term vision is to create a value chain with its customers and suppliers that work in synergy to lowering carbon emissions to protect the environment.

This year, in the 10th International Rubber Glove Conferences and Exhibition – Synthomer launched a new sustainable NBR – SyNovus™ Plus. With current consumption of rubber gloves exceeds 420 billion every year, the massive problem of glove waste will take the center stage. More attention will be emphasized on landfill diversion and PPE recycling and gloves manufacturers are expected to take leadership with focus on sustainability initiatives. With SyNovus™ Plus, the sustainability feature of the material will be the next generation NBR that enables gloves manufacturers to play a greater role in lowering carbon emission while offering a sustainable product to their customers. Due to its enhanced recyclability, gloves made by SyNovus™ Plus can be recycled more readily into other rubber products than conventional nitrile after being used. This in turn will help to reduce gloves going into the landfill.

When it comes to carbon emission, not only SyNovus™ Plus is with better recyclability, the new NBR material can be cured with lower temperature than conventional NBR, it results in energy savings of 10% or more for manufacturers while at the same time significantly reducing carbon emission from their production process. In addition to its sustainability feature, SyNovus™ Plus is an accelerator-free NBR, in short, it promotes safer skin contact and minimizes the risk of Type IV allergy for glove users.

As the world is moving towards a carbon neutral future, Synthomer is working together with glove manufacturers towards in creating sustainability into the value chain by continuously providing innovative and sustainable material to glove manufacturing.
