Teknor Apex builds on success of Bikes for a Brighter Future Initiative
Pawtucket, RI – One year after launching its Bikes for a Brighter Future initiative, Teknor Apex is celebrating the impact of the program’s first year and preparing to bring the initiative to even more children and communities in its second year.
Created as a tribute to retired CEO and current Chairman of the Board, Jonathan Fain, and his lifelong love of cycling, Bikes for a Brighter Future was launched with a simple goal: give children who need bikes the most the chance to experience the freedom, confidence, and joy that comes with owning a bike.
In its first year, the program delivered more than 300 bikes, helmets, and locks to children through community partners in the United States, Germany and China. Each child received not only a bike, but the safety equipment and lock needed to use and care for it. Teknor Apex partnered with several Boys & Girls Clubs affiliates, as well as Maple Run Elementary School in Vermont, United Way in South Carolina, and Elijah Way in Texas. Internationally, the initiative reached children through partners including SIP Shengpu Experimental Primary School in Suzhou, China, a Children’s Home in Singapore, and Förderzentrum Rothenburg in Germany.
“When we started Bikes for a Brighter Future, our goal was to make a positive impact. Seeing more than 300 kids receive bikes in the first year showed us just how meaningful this program can be,” said Don Wiseman, CEO of Teknor Apex. “A bike gives a child freedom, confidence, and a sense of possibility. That impact is something we are proud to build on as we move into year two.”
For Teknor Apex employees around the world, the program has become a hands-on way to support the communities where they live and work. Local teams helped build the bikes, coordinate deliveries, connect with partner organizations, and take part in events where children received their bikes.
“Riding a bike gave me a real sense of freedom and accomplishment when I was young,” said Jonathan Fain, retired CEO and current Chairman of the Board at Teknor Apex. “My hope is that these children feel that same pride and joy. To see this program begin with such strong impact, employee involvement, and now continue into an annual event – is something I’m very proud of.”
As Teknor Apex prepares for the second year of Bikes for a Brighter Future, the company plans to continue working with local partners to create a lasting impact.
