The Kuraray Foundation funds restoration of El Greco’s The Annunciation

Kurashiki City, Japan – With funding from the Kuraray Foundation, the Ohara Arts Foundation will be carrying out a restoration project on El Greco’s The Annunciation, which is in its collection.

For the first restoration work in about 60 years, we will invite a professional restorer from the Prado Museum in Spain. Due to this project, The Annunciation will not be on display from Tuesday, July 8, 2025 until the date of its re-exhibition (to be determined). In addition, it is not yet known whether the work will be able to be re-exhibited immediately after the work is completed, so we will inform you of the schedule for the re-exhibition at a later date.

The restoration of El Greco’s The Annunciation is being carried out with the support of the Kuraray Foundation.

As part of a commemorative project for Kuraray Co., Ltd., which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026, the restoration process will be filmed. In addition, some of the works in the collection of the Ohara Art Foundation, including El Greco’s The Annunciation, will be made into high-definition digital images. These will be edited and planned to be broadcast as a TV program at a later date.
