U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association forecasts higher tire shipments for 2025
Washington, DC – The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) forecasts that total U.S. tire shipments will reach 340.2 million units in 2025, surpassing the previous record of 337.3 million units set in 2024. This also marks an increase from 332.7 million units in 2019.
Compared to 2024, Original Equipment (OE) tire shipments are expected to decline across all categories: passenger tires by 2.0%, light truck tires by 1.4%, and truck tires by 8.0%, resulting in a total decrease of 1.4 million units. In contrast, replacement tire shipments are projected to rise, with passenger tires increasing by 1.2%, light truck tires by 2.5%, and truck tires by 3.7%, contributing to a total increase of 4.4 million units.
In terms of specific figures for 2025, OE passenger tire shipments are expected to be 42.3 million units, down from 43.1 million in 2024 and 46.3 million in 2019. Light truck OE shipments are projected at 6.6 million units, slightly below 2024’s 6.7 million but up from 5.9 million in 2019. Truck OE shipments are forecasted at 5.2 million units, a drop from 5.7 million in 2024 and significantly lower than the 6.5 million units in 2019.
Replacement passenger tire shipments are expected to reach 224.2 million units, up from 221.6 million in 2024 and 222.6 million in 2019. Light truck replacement shipments are projected at 37.7 million units, an increase from 36.7 million in 2024 and 32.5 million in 2019. Truck replacement shipments are forecasted at 24.3 million units, rising from 23.4 million in 2024 and 18.9 million in 2019.
Overall, total tire shipments in 2025 are expected to grow by 0.9% compared to 2024, an increase of 3.0 million units, and by 2.3% compared to 2019, an increase of 7.6 million units. All shipment figures are in millions and have been rounded.
