Volvo EX60 fitted with Continental EcoContact 7 tires
Hanover, German – Continental has received original-equipment approval for the fully electric Volvo EX60. The Continental EcoContact 7 S has been approved in sizes 235/55 R20 for the front axle and 255/50 R20 for the rear axle. Both versions feature an integrated rim protector (FR). This reinforced area on the tire sidewall reduces the risk of rim damage, for example in the event of accidental contact with curbs.
The EcoContact 7 S is a sporty summer tire designed for low rolling resistance, high mileage and low rolling noise. Its optimized rubber compound and tire construction help reduce rolling resistance and thus energy consumption. As the sportier version of the EcoContact 7, the S version places particular emphasis on wet grip and handling. This gives the EcoContact 7 S a more direct and responsive feel, along with enhanced grip. The tire also features the EV-compatible logo on its sidewall, identifying it as particularly suitable for electric vehicles.
To achieve exceptional efficiency, Continental applies a principle borrowed from golf. The surface of a golf ball is covered with small dimples that reduce air resistance and generate greater lift, enabling the ball to travel farther and more accurately. Continental has adapted this concept for tire sidewalls, where small indentations – known as Aerodimples – reduce air turbulence behind the tires. This means that less energy is required to keep the vehicle moving.
Noise comfort was also a key focus during development. A specially tuned tread pattern reduces rolling noise, particularly when driving at low speeds in urban traffic. This makes for a more pleasant driving experience while also helping to reduce noise pollution for pedestrians and local residents.
