Zochem ULC awarded EcoVadis Gold Medal
Brampton, ONT – Zochem ULC has announced that it has been awarded a Gold Medal in the 2024 annual sustainability evaluation by EcoVadis, achieving a remarkable 95th percentile overall score. This prestigious recognition places Zochem among the top 5% of companies evaluated by EcoVadis, the world’s largest sustainability ratings provider, which has assessed over 125,000 companies globally.
EcoVadis sustainability ratings are grounded in international standards such as the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standard, the ISO 26000 standard, and the conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO). These benchmarks ensure a comprehensive and rigorous assessment of a company’s sustainability performance.
As a leading manufacturer of French Process zinc oxide with facilities in Dickson, TN, and Brampton, ON, Zochem’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles is reflected in its alignment with the four key sustainability themes measured by EcoVadis: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.
Over the past year, Zochem has embarked on a structured learning journey to enhance its sustainability practices. This journey included compliance with Bill S-211, an Act to Fight Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains. Through these concerted efforts, Zochem improved its EcoVadis rating from Silver in 2023 to Gold in 2024.
Zochem’s sustainable Muffle Furnace technology, utilized in a zero-waste facility, exemplifies its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This technology features minimal molten metal handling, best-in-class heat recuperation, and industry-low carbon emissions, aligning with international conventions aimed at mitigating climate change.
In celebration of this achievement, EcoVadis will plant a tree on behalf of Zochem ULC through its partnership with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring forests, creating habitat for biodiversity, and making a positive social impact around the world. This initiative highlights the shared commitment of both EcoVadis and Zochem to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Mohit Sharma, President & CEO of Zochem, expressed his gratitude for the recognition and the tree-planting initiative. “We are honored to be recognized by EcoVadis and to contribute to global reforestation efforts. This award motivates our Dream Team to continue our journey towards greater sustainability and to set higher standards for ourselves and our industry.”
