3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) modified polyurethane foam for bacteria removal from water
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) aim to provide clean drinking water to all individuals by 2030, including those in the most remote and challenging areas. Inappropriate environmental management often leads to drinking water contamination with intestinal pathogens like Escherichia coli (E. coli), causing diseases such as diarrhea and resulting in numerous deaths in remote areas worldwide. Given climate change and the growing global population, it is crucial to find an economical, simple and environmentally friendly method to treat fresh water and remove E. coli and other pathogenic bacteria. To date, limited research has explored the use of polyurethane based foams as filters for removing bacteria from water.
