Nokian Tyres announces over 600 temporary and permanent layoffs

Nokian Tyres has concluded the personnel negotiations in Finland. The negotiations involved white-collar employees in Group functions and all business units, as well as both blue- and white-collar employees in passenger car and heavy tire production in Nokia, Finland. The negotiations will lead to termination of 35 permanent white-collar positions and 650 personnel – 90 day layoffs.

Yokohama Rubber posts record sales and earnings

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced its business and financial results for the first three quarters (January to September) of fiscal 2025. Sales revenue increased 12.0% over the same period of the previous year, to \877.2 billion; business profit increased 20.8%, to \100.7 billion; operating profit increased 6.9%, to \91.7 billion; and profit attributable to owners of parent increased 8.7%, to \66.1 billion. The figures for all those items were record-high figures for performance in the first three quarters at Yokohama Rubber. In addition, the company’s business profit margin, at 11.5%, was the highest ever for the first three quarters.

Denka records extraordinary loss of ¥9,415 million due to suspension of Louisiana facility

Denka Company Limited announced that it will record an extraordinary loss of ¥9,415 million in its consolidated financial results for the first half of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026. According to the company, the loss stems from the liquidation of business operations at its U.S. subsidiary, Denka Performance Elastomer LLC (DPE), which has decided not to restart production at its chloroprene rubber manufacturing facilities.

AkzoNobel and Axalta Coating System announce merger

Akzo Nobel N.V. and Axalta Coating Systems Ltd. announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement to combine in an all-stock merger of equals, creating a global coatings company with an enterprise value of approximately $25 billion.
Upon closing, the combined company will have a one-tier Board, led by Rakesh Sachdev, current Chair of the Axalta Board of Directors. Ben Noteboom, current Chairman of the AkzoNobel Supervisory Board, will serve as Vice-Chair. The Board will be composed of 11 directors – four from each company and three independent members. Of the 11 Board members, two will be executive directors and nine will be non-executive directors. Each company expects to hold its respective Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders tentatively in mid-2026.
