Sustainable rubber compounding strategies for next generation tires

The global automotive industry is transitioning from a linear model to a circular economy to mitigate its environmental footprint. Tires, as complex polymeric composites, represent a significant challenge in this transition. Approximately one billion end-of-life tires (ELTs) are generated annually worldwide, contributing to a cumulative waste stock that poses severe ecological hazards, often referred to as “black pollution”. Without decisive intervention, the volume of waste tires is projected to increase by approximately 1.2 billion units per year by 2030, exacerbating issues related to landfill saturation and uncontrolled incineration.
