The measurement of tire innerliner gauge
In this study, the Keyence digital microscope has been used to measure component gauges of tire cross-sections, and specifically the innerliner. The innerliner is core enabling technology for the modern radial tire. Images were thus obtained by placing the microscope vertically above a tire section, focusing the microscope, and then obtaining gauges and photographs of the tire innerliner component.
For tire component gauge measurement study, the microscope is placed perpendicular, or 90°, to the horizontal test sample. The objective of this specific study is to, i) assess measurement accuracy; and more important, ii) conduct a sensitivity analysis regarding component gauge measurement quality should the microscopy drift off 90° or the perpendicular position; and iii) how far off 90° will data quality be affected.
