GitiSport e GTR2 Pro tires propel Yangwang U9 supercar to record-breaking speed
Singapore – Giti Tire has announced a major breakthrough in electric vehicle performance, with its GitiSport e GTR2 Pro tires powering the Yangwang U9 supercar to a top speed of 472.41 km/h. The test took place on August 8, 2025, at the ATP proving grounds in Germany, setting a new benchmark for electric vehicle speed.
The Yangwang U9, developed by BYD’s luxury EV brand Yangwang, is a high-performance supercar equipped with over 1,000 horsepower and advanced torque vectoring. It was designed to compete with traditional combustion-engine supercars, combining rapid acceleration with sophisticated aerodynamics and intelligent control systems.
Giti Tire joined the project in April 2023, leveraging its motorsport experience to develop a tire capable of handling the extreme demands of electric supercars. The first prototype was completed in March 2024 and tested at the Yangcheng Test Site, reaching 375 km/h. Further testing in Germany pushed the speed to 391.93 km/h, and by June 2025, indoor trials confirmed the tire’s capability at 500 km/h. The August test validated the tire’s real-world performance, resulting in the record-breaking achievement.
The GitiSport e GTR2 Pro tires were engineered specifically for electric supercars, which typically weigh between 1,900 and 2,800 kilograms and produce over 1,000 horsepower. The tires feature advanced materials and design innovations that enhance strength, grip, heat resistance, and responsiveness. These include optimized molecular chains, ultra-high-strength aramid fibers, a next-generation racing profile, and a bionic sidewall design. The tires also incorporate fast warm-up additives and an anti-standing wave structure to maintain stability at ultra-high speeds.
Certified under CCC and ECE regulations, the GitiSport e GTR2 Pro joins the ranks of elite street-legal semi-slick tires, offering performance comparable to top-tier models from other global brands.
The record-setting test was supported by Giti’s international team, including experts from its European R&D Centre and racing division. This achievement highlights Giti’s commitment to innovation and its role in advancing sustainable, high-performance mobility in the electric vehicle sector.
