Early origins – The use of natural latex dates back to the Aztecs, who utilized it to create balls as early as 1600 B.C. However, the inception of the latex foam industry is closely linked to John Boyd Dunlop. While primarily recognized for his invention of the pneumatic tire in 1888, Dunlop’s experiments (besides Goodyear’s) with rubber laid the groundwork for the future development of rubber vulcanization and of latex products.
